DONNIE
Where do we start? Donnie, a personality-filled male American pit bull terrier, has been with us for a number of years. But his journey both before he came into our care and since has been filled with many highs and lows. His is a long story, one which we really wanted to share to reflect the unfortunate twists and turns in his life and why he so badly needs…and DESERVES…a forever home.
We all know that pets thrive when they have continuity and stability in their lives. Sadly, Donnie has not had that luxury. Originally pulled from Franklin County, he was put into foster care. Unfortunately, after just a few months, his foster had a family emergency and Donnie was placed into boarding where he spent another few months.
After that short period he was put into the care of a different foster and was eventually adopted in Kentucky. Happy ending, right? Not exactly. That adopter “lost” him and never mentioned it! Donnie ended up being found in Pennsylvania! During his stay in a shelter he was attacked by another dog. At this point, Donnie came into our foster care. But because of having just been the victim of a dog attack, he began having issues with that foster’s dog so Donnie was placed BACK into boarding!
Can you imagine such a journey? As of now, Donnie has been in private boarding for a little over a year. He is dearly loved by his boarder and is given a lot of freedom, but he needs to be adopted to a permanent home!
Donnie has had a few meet-and-greets with families that have other dogs, but unfortunately they didn’t go well. As soon as a dog plays rough, Donnie becomes afraid and reacts by protecting himself. So he needs to go into a home as the only dog. He used to be fine with cats, but currently has become too interested in the private boarder’s cats.
Donnie is around 8 years old and is deserving of the best life possible. His previous foster provided a lovely picture of his personality by saying that he loves to cuddle, loves to talk, and is crazy about his tug toys. And one adorable quirk of his is he doesn’t like to be cold. So he loves to wear sweaters and being under blankets, even tunneling under them to cover himself! (Adorable, right?!) Donnie walks great on a leash and adores going on car rides. So with all that, the fact he needs to be an only pet hopefully won’t keep him from finding true and lasting love!
Storm’s Angels Rescue has a full year of Events planned, and we’re quite excited to post them here as dates are filled in! Why not visit our Events page and see what’s coming?!
We have more great events coming up soon that we have yet to add, so be sure and check back regularly!
TNR, or Trap Neuter Return, has become a vital part of animal rescue work. Lorain is estimated to have more than 9,000 free-roaming community cats! Some are feral (unsocialized) and some are strays (socialized and likely lost or abandoned). Those cats that are not sterilized reproduce at an alarming rate, therefore worsening the problem.
You have probably seen them in your neighborhood. This life is a difficult one for cats, so stopping population growth is vital. Because of the importance of TNR, and our continued emphasis on it, we added a TNR information page to our website. Viewers can learn more about it, as well as see how they can not only get help, but to help volunteer their time. You can visit HERE.
Have you ever thought about fostering animals? Well, there’s no time like TODAY to learn more! Fostering is an amazing experience, and teaches kids the volunteer spirit. You can select to foster either cats, kittens, dogs or puppies. For instance, Mama Fiona (pictured here) gave birth March 3, 2022 to 5 healthy kittens: Dragona, Felicia, Farley, Lord Farquaad, and Fergus. They’re happily resting and being adorable at one of our foster homes. Now wouldn’t that be fun?!
Storm’s Angels Rescue provides all the needed supplies and pays for all veterinarian costs up until adoption day.
All-in-all, fostering is a fun and rewarding experience that only costs your love and affection! Why not check out our Foster page now for more information?
